quadronuevo2.jpg

Quadro Nuevo is a German acoustic quartet which was founded in 1996 and can be categorized as World Music and Jazz. The band is comprised of Robert Wolf, Mulo Francel, D.D. Lowka and Andreas Hinterseher (original Heinz-Ludger Jeromine). Within the last decade the band played about 1500 concerts all over the world and is with its numerous awards and Chart Positions among the internationally most successful German Jazz Bands. Their style is a composition of (cit. Quadro Nuevo) "Tango, Valse Musette, Flamenco, lovely dedusted filmmusic and an almost faded Italy".

Tango, valse musette, arabesque, flamenco, lovingly dusted off film music and an Italy almost lost in time - since 1996 Quadro Nuevo has appeared in over 1500 concerts all over Europe.
The four musicians’ venues are as diverse as the roots of their music: The nostalgic-acoustic ensemble not only appear in concert halls and at festivals. The fervent virtuosi also travel around the Southern Mediterranean as street musicians enticing their audience to dance as a nightly tango band.

Each of Quadro Nuevo's CDs so far has received the German Jazz Award and climbed into the Top Ten of the Jazz and World Music Charts and the Top 50 album charts.

The instrumental quartet has long since established its own form of poetical sound, beyond the genre pigeon holes.
Starting off with European tango with a euphoric note, Quadro Nuevo enriches this musical tradition with elements from flamenco, Balkan swing, daring improvisations and an incomparable Mediterranean sense of ease.

Quadro Nuevo formed in 1996. Four young men met for the first time on some grey January day of that year on a car park near Salzburg.
They were - the guitarist Robert Wolf, who until that time had been touring with the flamenco star Paco de Lucia - saxophonist Mulo Francel, who appeared in jazz clubs and worked with large orchestras – D.D. Lowka , as a bassist he had formed the basis for various latino combos – and Andreas Hinterseher who cultivated the folk accordion tradition of the Parisian valse musette.
The four hardly knew each other previously and had been commissioned to produce film music for ORF [Austrian broadcasting and television station]. The film was never broadcast, but one thing was clear on that day:
A new quartet with an unmistakable sound had been born. From then on only one thing mattered – Quadro Nuevo, the love of nostalgic-acoustic music and travelling together evening for evening, from stage to stage. A dream became true, the ardour of joy is to be heard in every note..

The quartet have so far played at numerous renowned festivals, such as the Montreal Jazz Festival, the 'Internationale Jazzwoche Burghausen', the 'Rheingau Musikfestival', the 'Meraner Musikwochen', 'Saalfelden Jazztage' and the Quebec Festival.

Buongiorno Tristezza (1999)

89104044.jpg

Modern salon music: Bossa nova, tango and French musette waltzes fuse with Italian and Spanish impressions. “Passionate and above all really sentimental – an irresistible mixture.” (Freundin)

An irresistible musical cocktail: Quadro Nuevo get into the spririt of the sensuality of Tango. They interpret ballads and affectionate adapted film music devotedly. In its nostalgic-acoustic cast with accordion, saxophone, Spanish guitar and acoustic bass the band creates an atmosphere of ease and relaxation and a little bit of bitter-sweet melancholy. Two Jazz Awards by the German Phono industry!

Antakya (2008)

52211038.jpg

Quadro Nuevo recorded the music on this CD for a documentary entitled "Two Half Lives" in Antakya, a city in the southeast of Turkey near the Syrian border. In ancient times this place was called Antiochia and it was here that the Apostle Peter built his first Christian church in a rock above the city. The Habibi Neccar Mosque and the tree of Moses can be found here as well. Antakya is a magical place where religious harmony and peace reign.

A travel through the South East Turkey led Quadro Nuevo to Antakya, a city near the Syrian border.
In Antakya the four musicians met to compose and record music. Music for a documentary entitled "Two half-lives", made by the German-Turkish director Ahmet Servet Golbol.

The music on this CD creates images in the mind of the listener. On miraculously the listener experiences the impressions of this trip once again.
