SuperCache
SuperCache breaks the disk I/O bottleneck by using the computer's RAM to hold or contain the most frequently used disk data. This 'container' is referred to as a cache. With SuperCache, as a program sends and receives disk data, the most frequently used data is read from and written to RAM – not the hard drive – thus accelerating the program's performance. SuperCache implements our patented block-level cache technology to increase performance above that of the operating system’s file-level cache.
SuperCache is an excellent choice for these scenarios:
The data files are larger than available physical memory.
The data files are located on a disk partition or disk volume that is too large to fit into available physical memory, and cannot be moved to one where they will fit. (For example: Dragon Naturally Speaking v7.3 cannot be configured to place its data on a different drive.)
Minimum risk of lost data.

Not all the data will be available in RAM all the time. Some will come from the hard drive. Nonetheless, depending upon the size of the cache and the nature of the disk I/O demands, performance accelerations can be significant and often dramatic.
Deferred-write mode: By enabling its lazy-write mechanism, SuperCache can also accelerate writing data to disk. This mechanism delays writes to the hard drive. This can 'smooth out' I/O activity on the hard drive. It is important to note that enabling lazy-write increases the risk of data loss in the event of a system crash or power failure. SuperSpeed Software recommends that enabling the lazy-write feature ONLY on systems equipped with an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS).
SuperCache can be used to cache an entire system drive (e.g. drive C including the system pagefile. SuperCache is the appropriate choice when a particular program (e.g. database, game, etc.) needs to access very large amounts data.

SuperCache for Servers
SuperCache use block-level caching technology to raise system performance far beyond that of the NT file-level cache alone. It breaks the disk I/O bottleneck by using the server's system memory to store the most frequently used data, executing read and write requests in memory rather than on disk. SuperCache is implemented as a storage volume filter driver, residing in the storage stack just above the storage volume class drivers.
How it works: SuperCache intelligently stores frequently used disk data in system memory. It stores the data in an area called its cache. It intercepts requests for disk data and, when possible, fulfills the request using the cache instead of requesting data from the disk. When data comes from or goes to the cache, the performance is similar to a RAM disk – extremely fast.
Deferred-writes: By enabling its lazy-write mechanism, SuperCache can also accelerate disk writes. This mechanism sends write data immediately to the cache but defers writing it to the hard disk. The effect is to 'smooth out' I/O activity on the hard drive. It is important to note that enabling lazy-write increases the risk of data loss in the event of a system crash or power failure. SuperSpeed Software recommends that you enable the lazy-write feature ONLY on systems equipped with an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS).
The Windows operating system supports a file-system level cache, the NT file-system cache. However, the flow of data at the file-system level and the flow of data at the block (or storage volume) level are not the same. Each level – the file-system level and the block level – represents a different data flow paradigm, or model. Optimization of flows at the file system level does not optimize flows at the block level. SuperCache enhances disk I/O throughput by optimizing flows at the block-level.
Minimum System Requirements:
- Windows 2000 - all server editions, Windows Server 2003 - all editions, 32- and 64-bit (x64 and Itanium-based)

- Intel 64-bit: Itanium, Itanium 2, EM64T processor families
- AMD 64-bit: Athlon 64, Opteron
- All SMP configurations of the above which are supported by Windows™
Memory Support:
- Minimum: 512 MB RAM
- Recommended: 1 GB or greater
- Maximum: as per amount recognized by Microsoft Windows™
- Types: all including SDRAM, DDR, Rambus etc.
Disk and File Systems Supported:
- Basic type (not dynamic)
- FAT, FAT32, NTFS
Other considerations:
- 16 MB free disk space for installation
