Frank Sinatra - With Red Norvo Quintet-Live In Australia 1959

Frank Sinatra - With Red Norvo Quintet-Live In Australia 1959

VBR 128kbps 45 Mb

Unreleased until 1997, these tapes were recorded during two stops on Sinatra's brief Australian tour of 1959, during which he was backed by the quintet of jazz vibraphonist Red Norvo. The 16-song set list (including "I Get a Kick Out of You," "One for My Baby," and a truly inspired version of "Night and Day") is prime Sinatra, and the Chairman is obviously enjoying his easy rapport with the Melbourne audience and the swinging playing of the Norvo Quintet. It's a rare delight to hear the Sinatra of this period singing in front of a stripped-down jazz combo. The overall sound is a little muddy, but most Sinatra aficionados will be so enthralled by the performances that they won't even notice or care. --Dan Epstein

The Very Best of Glenn Miller
а в каком это битрейте?
It's 192k stereo. More than enough for recordings from that period.

BTW, from what I can make out (though I haven't checked all of them yet), this is real Glenn Miller. In fact, songs sound identical to the ones on the Essential Glenn Miller album which was recorded 1939-1944 i.e. before he was killed in WWII. So, big thanks to follow for his great contribution (to my quest ;) ) and the info to the rest that the Essential Glenn Miller can be found on delit.net.

Sigh :( I guess I was a bit hasty... Unfortunatelly, the above said is not entirely true, as at least half of them sound too sweet and watered down :( So, Glenn Miller & his Orchestra recordings still remain the only source of Glenn Miller at his best. And my quest continues... :(

Lee Morgan

Lee Morgan Quintet: Lee Morgan (trumpet); Clifford Jordan (tenor saxophone); Barry Harris (piano); Bob Cranshaw (bass); Louis Hayes (drums). Recorded at Plaza Sound Studios, New York, New York on January 24, 1962. Originally released on Jazzland (980). Includes liner notes by Ira Gitler. Digitally remastered by Joe Tarantino (1989, Fantasy Studios, Berkeley, California. Get this recording just for Louis Hayes' cooking hi-hat work on the opening cut "Raggedy Ann." Following the head, Morgan prowls around the confines of the groove, poking this way and that, then finally releasing into a straight-ahead swing feel after four taut choruses. "Lee-Sure Time" has a similar brooding quality, with stark trumpet and tenor harmonies that evoke the Jazz Messengers--no surprise, considering this is the first album Morgan made after a stint with Blakey that ran from 1958 to 1961. Saxophonist Clifford Jordan contributes "Little Spain," a jazz waltz with a sunny disposition that gets propulsive treatment, particularly during pianist Barry Harris' solo. Morgan's 3/4-time contribution, "A Waltz For Fran," is decidedly moodier, with brushwork from Hayes coloring the trumpeter's melancholy throughout. With Elmo Hope's serpentine title track and the closer, Morgan's "Second's Best" both swinging hard in minor keys, TAKE TWELVE qualifies as vintage early-'60s hard bop.

1.Raggedy Ann
2.A Waltz For Fran
3.Lee-Sure Time
4.Little Spain
5.Take Twelve
6.Second's Best - (take 5)
